These dried fruits are beneficial in treating various conditions due to their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-tumor properties.

Aseel Dates aid in digestion and assist gastric health. They are caloric and have a moderate glycemic profile: mostly fruit sugar that is mitigated with some internal fiber. Aseel Dates have decent micronutrients as well.

Five benefits of eating Aseel Dates

In addition to tasting great, Aseel Dates contain protein, vitamins, and minerals. They are also:

1. Alternative to empty-calorie sweets. Dates can satisfy a person’s sweet tooth while also providing essential nutrients, such as vitamin B-6 and iron.

2. High in fiber. Just ¼ of a cup of dates provides 12 percent of a person’s daily fiber requirement. Fiber helps a person feel fuller for longer.

3. High in potassium. Dates are high in potassium, which is an electrolyte the body needs for good heart health. Potassium also helps to build muscle and proteins in the body.

4. Great for substitutions. People can replace the sugar, chocolate chips, or candies in baking recipes with dates to ensure they are eating natural sugars instead of refined sugars.

5. High in polyphenols. Polyphenols are antioxidant compounds that can protect the body from inflammation. Dates contain more polyphenols than most other fruits and vegetables.

Monsoon Rains devastate date crop in Sukkur, Khairpur Pakistan

According to some estimates by market dealers and growers, 60% of the crop was affected in the second week of July, when the crop was ready fo harvesting. The rains normally come by the end of August, when harvesting is over. The rains continued for around 4 days, damaging the quality of otherwise healthy dates.

Around 60% of the crop has been damaged as it was fully ripe when it rained.

The mid-July rains were untimely as that was the ideal time for harvest.  We were not able to do the picking,” said orchard owner from Khairpur.

But he was confident that prices would shoot up after two months given the higher demand and lesser supplies, though only a few farmers would be in a position to take advantage of this situation.

Meanwhile, the rains and then the post-rain climate have increased the farmers’ expenses. The processing of dates, which normally takes a week, has been extended to 12 days. The growers are engaging laborer’s for extra time to take care of the dates during the drying process and then keep them covered during the night to avoid dew, which increases moisture.

Aseel Dates Bumper Crop 2022

There has been a bumper crop of dates in Sindh this year and the harvesting is now in full
swing. Workers for picking dates from trees have started arriving in Khairpur and Sukkur.

Thousands of workers men and women have set up camps near the dates orchards. During last
couple of years the date crops had been damaged heavily due to rains. This year, Monsoon rain
is expected and Bumper crop can be damage heavily.

The dates orchard owners are carrying out harvesting at a quick pace. In case of rains, the crop
may be washed away. Reports from Sukkur indicate that the owners of dates gardens are
offering prayers for completing the picking before arrival of monsoon.

  • Generally, it has been observed in most of the farms in district Khairpur-Sindh Pakistan, the size and quality of dates produce is pretty good because of extreme hot weather of the current summer.
  • The growers are very optimistic to receive a bumper crop better than last year. Only coincidence of monsoon weather at the time of harvest is a cause of concern.
  • The growers have made comparatively good measures to cope with rainy weather in order to protect the fruit as well as the drying grounds where usually stays water due to heavy rains.
  • Anticipations for a bumper crop are almost about to turn into reality but the chance of glut or oversupply in the domestic market cannot be ruled out. This might drive the prices down to a desperate level which usually happen in that situation.
